Det finns något djupt sympatiskt i den kubanska danstruppen Danza Voluminosa. Det är en balettgrupp vars medlemmar har den gemensamma nämnaren att de alla är kraftigt överviktiga. Prima ballerinan Mailin Daza (122 kg) har i en intervju sagt att hon som liten (yngre alltså, inte smalare) ville dansa i en klassisk balett men hennes mor hade sagt att feta flickor inte kan dansa. 1997 blev det ändring på det. Jag gillar egentligen inte ordet folksjäl men om det finns en sådan på Kuba så manifesteras den ganska väl i det här. Viva obesa!

The troupe is known for its parody of "Swan Lakeî and engages in hilarious renditions of clichés like the cancan. But the troupe is serious about dance, and can perform pieces on the universal themes of love, death and erotic longing. Mas also choreographs pieces on the tragedy of gluttony, love between obese couples, the prejudice that fat people face and the psychic toll of obesity.
